Tappy Card: Smart Business Card (Review)
In June of 2020, I ordered a bunch of business cards from VistaPrint. I’ve been ordering cards through them for over a decade now. As always, the cards came out great.
One of my issues with business cards is having my phone number on them. I find that text is generally the most used means of communication in the music scene. With that, I want my number to go out to people I would like to work with. However, I don’t want everyone to have my number. If someone wants to contact me, but we don’t have a working relationship— Social media fills that perfectly. So, what to do?
I decided to see what alternative options there were and I stumbled across (affiliate link) Tappy Card — A smart business card with a built in NFC chip and a printed QR Code. The NFC chip give the “Tappy Tap” feature (which works with most newer smartphones) that allows you to tap the card to the smart phone and have your profile pop up on the device. The QR Code allows for the "Tappy Scan” in case the phone isn’t compatible with the NFC tech. The scan will use a QR scanner (built in to many smartphones, but there are apps in case!) to bring up your profile. The card is two-sided with the same print on both sides, which makes it really easy to show.
As for looks of the card, it’s very minimalist. Whatever text you want them to print, their branding, and a QR code. At the time of writing this (July 2020), the price is $12.99. There’s no subscription fee or monthly charges. It’s a one and done deal.
Once you receive the card, it will come with a small sleeve and instructions. The instructions will have a Tappy Serial Number and a website to register the card. From there you can edit your profile and start using your sweet new SMART CARD OF THE FUTURE.
Oh, also, the website to edit your profile is a little wonky. It’s set up similar to a LinkTree - however, there do seem to be some issues with the coding. Sometimes if you edit or add a link, when you click “update changes”, it doesn’t. Just make sure you double check with your own smartphone before you start flexing your card. The services it will let you add are “Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, Facebook, SoundCloud, LinkedIn, TikTok, Twitter, Spotify, Apple Music, Venmo, CashApp, Phone Number, Email, Website, Custom URL” with plans to add more.
Now that I’ve been using the card for a while, I wanted to talk about it a little. It’s been great. There have been multiple times I’ve had the chance to use it (both the tap and scan features) while out and about. It’s come in extra useful while out on photoshoots.
